Summer is one of my favorite seasons of the year. It always brings my family together, encourages me to stay active, and is a time for me to learn new things and be adventure. Summer is also the perfect season to wear those colorful tank tops, shorts, a pair of flip flops and swim suit. This is especially true for me as I live close by the beach in San Diego .
As a busy mom I try to stay active, both in body and mind. Finding balance in our lives is so important. I had insomnia for more than 10 years, and the inability to sleep every night made me feel tired during the day and unable to exercise. Insomnia almost killed me and I hardly felt alive anymore. Gladly I finally solved the problem and I am no longer insomniac (going on 2 years now). My body feels so much better, healthier and I feel so much happier.
One way I achieve that solid balance in my life is by starting my mornings with a high protein breakfast and doing sit-ups or squats. Depending on my schedule, I will try my best to go to the gym for at least 1 hour, doing cardio and weight lifting before go back to do my work. My body always feels so much better after a workout (much better than a cup of coffee). It also makes my mind feel a bit more at ease as I’ve already accomplished something for the day. I usually start my work around 10 am and try to do quick 15 minutes intense workout or cleaning the house so I don’t sit on my couch for hours. I eat 3 big meals everyday: breakfast, lunch and dinner. I enjoy raw foods like Salad for Lunch and cook meal for dinner. Snacking is very important. I try to snack on high protein and fiber foods every 2-3 hours to stabilize my sugar and to prevent binge eating. Fruits and Protein Bars are my favorite snacks.. No preparation needed. I always keep protein bars in my cars, in my purse.. perfect for before/after workout.
Balance Bars are true to their name and have a lot of science and research behind their ingredients and giving the right mix of protein, carbs and healthy fats. The whole 40/30/30 diet has many followers and is one of the diets that had stayed a staple over time while other diets fade away and aren’t used anymore. I love the variety of flavors and how they’re healthy but don’t have a chalky taste. They also have a nice crunch to them and keep me full during “snacking hours”.
