Starting a life together with someone is a huge goal for many people, and with it come dreams of a new life journey filled with romance, fun adventures and for some expanding the family.  Much focus is on the day itself and the quest of a perfect wedding (whatever that means!).  Planning a wedding is stressful and is absolutely not an easy task.  It can even test the relationship itself, as backwards as that sounds.  People should above all keep in mind that it’s all about the love, and take it in stride and try to find some humor in things when they go wrong (and trust me, they always do!).

Proper planning will be an immense help for the wedding, so be sure to start planning sixteen to nine month before your wedding date if possible. Planning a wedding consists many of these steps : Budgeting, Choosing a theme, finding a date/reserving a place, creating a guest list and creating a wedding registry, just to name a few.  As far as the wedding registry, many people unfortunately just follow suit of what they have seen at other weddings, even if it’s not a good fit for them.

Here are some wedding registry mistakes to avoid :

  1. Not registering at all  (People are there to celebrate you, let them!)
  2. Registering too many items
  3. Registering items you don’t need or will never need
  4. Registering at only one local store
  5. Not utilizing modern registry options, such as a Group gifting that allow couples to ask for what they really want, without asking their guests to spend more than they are comfortable with—so they can dream big. With group gifting, gift- givers are able to contribute any amount they want, so couples can ask for the gifts they really want and not worry about price point.

I say, registering is a must for couples who are tying the knot. This will give your friends and relatives an idea of what you need and what you want.

I agree with signing up for a Bridal Registry. It would avoid getting the same stuff from different people. It is also good for your guests to know what you want or what you need, so they do not have a difficult time choosing a nice gift for you.

OHHH that would have been awesome if this was around when I got married. My favorite store is Best Buy! Registering is the best way to go since some people don’t know the couple as well as others.

I do like to use a registry when I’m buying for others (even though I never had one – we were broke and needed everything, lol!). I really appreciate when couples choose a variety of lower priced items in addition to the big ticket items, so that all of the guests can feel like they’re buying something the couple really needs :-).

I like these tips. Back when my husband and I got married, we didn’t ask for any specific gifts since we wuldn’t be living together for a while. Most guests gave us money, which may not be an Original gift but it did help us. I agree in general a lot of lower-priced gifts are better than a few very expensive things, though with group gifting this doesn’tneed to be a problem either.

I never knew Best Buy had a registry! I am going to tell my cousin who’s going to get married this coming June! I asked her to share it with me first before the rest buys what I can afford. LOL.

The Best Buy registry is definitely a good one to use. A new camera and some kitchen appliances would make great wedding gifts.

My daughter will be getting married next May and we’ve been talking about where to register, etc. I forgot to mention Best Buy. I really like the idea of group gifting and I’ll pass this along.

I wish they had something like this years ago when I got married. It would of helped a bunch. I like the idea of allowing the purchase to go to a gift to allow you to get what you want. Thats better than received 3 of the same item.

I love your advice about the registry. When we got married, at first we were hesitant to register because we already had stuff. However, our pastor said to go pick out some stuff that you both like together. She said people tend to want to give gifts. I totally would have registered at best but when I got married. They have so many things to choose from especially if you already have two established households and don’t need a ton of stuff.

Having a wedding registry is something that I never thought of when I was planning my0 wedding 12 years ago. I wish I could have.

I got married in Canada and had a second reception in Italy, where most people don’t have a registry! It was so frustrating to receive pricey items that people took the time to choose out…but had nothing to do with my taste or what we actually needed!

As an appliance collector, I would love to receive a variety of kitchen gadgets and similar gifts as a wedding present. This is the first time that I’ve heard of Group Gifting – that sounds like such a beneficial concept.
