If you are looking for ground beef recipes, you have to learn how to make this Korean Beef Bowl.
This Asian inspired dish is so flavorful, quick to make and affordable. This Korean beef bowl is a Korean-inspired dish but is something that you may not find at traditional Korean restaurants.
What's inside the Korean Beef Bowl:
A skillet ground beef that is cooked perfectly in a homemade stir fry sauce and served on a bowl of rice.
The ground meat has the perfect level of sweetness, saltiness, smokiness, and spiciness.
The main ingredients for the sauce are Gojuchang and Hoisin sauce. Both of these sauces are a staple for Asian condiments.
You can use these sauces in many recipes from marinating to dipping. Additionally, you can use the cooked ground meat in other fusion dishes, such as on tacos, quesadilla or as the perfect filling for a homemade Asian bun.
How to Make the Stir Fry Sauce for Korean Beef Bowl:
To make the stir fry sauce, I used some leftover Gojuchang and Hoisin sauce from past recipes: MINCED PORK NOODLES WITH HOISIN SAUCE, BEST PORK TENDERLOIN STIR FRY (ASIAN BOWL).
Both sauces have very unique flavors and are essential to give the perfect flavors to those dishes. So below is the list of the ingredients:
- Gojuchang
- fresh garlic
- scallions
- ginger
- sesame oil
- hoisin sauce
- low sodium sauce
What is Gojuchang:
Gojuchang is a Korean red chili paste. It has a savory, sweet and spicy taste. It's used in various dishes such as bibimbap, salad, stews, soup and is also used to marinate BBQ meat dishes.
Gojuchang makes dishes taste sweeter and smokier. You can purchase Gojuchang online at Amazon.com or any local grocery stores, like Target, Ralphs, Vons, and Sprouts.
I highly recommend purchasing from a local store because it's cheaper than Amazon. I paid around $3.99 per jar. You can check out more recipes with Gojuchang here.
What is Hoisin Sauce:
Hoisin is a thick and fragrant sauce. It has a sweet and salty taste. Therefore, the sauce is a perfect glaze for meat, as a dipping sauce, or as an ingredient in a soup, like PHO.
You can purchase it online at Amazon.com, or any local grocery stores like Target, Ralphs, Vons, Walmart, and Sprouts. I highly recommend purchasing from a local store because it's cheaper than Amazon.
I paid around $2.99 per jar. Also, check out more recipes with Hoisin sauce.

Korean Food For Beginners:
I used to be intimidated to cook Korean and Japanese dishes. Turns out, it's not as hard as I made it out to be.
First of all, you can find many recipes that don't have a ton of ingredients or steps, like this one.
Furthermore, once you get the hang of cooking the meats and get dialed in on creating the sauces you like you're halfway there. Another thing that is important is cooking rice.
For that reason, I try to practice and perfect that before using it in a recipe.
This recipe, however, doesn't call for any rice but goes well with it. Above all, make sure you're having fun in the kitchen and don't be intimidated by something new in the kitchen... even the best chefs had to start somewhere!

Korean Beef Bowl
Ingredients
- ½ pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 scallions, (white part for stir fry and use green part for topping)
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- ½ tablespoon Gojuchang, (Mix with one tablespoon of hot water) - feel free to double the amount if you love spicy.
- 2 teaspoon sesame oil
- ½ tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon low sodium soy sauce
To Build Your Bowl:
- sesame seeds
- cooked white rice
- fresh chopped scallions (green part only)
Instructions
- In a skillet, heat oil over high heat. Cook ground beef undisturbed for about 1-2 minutes, then start breaking the meat apart, keep turning and continue cooking until brown. Transfer the beef to a colander to remove the excess liquid and fat. Drain and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add a bit of oil if needed. Cook scallions, minced garlic, freshly grated ginger just until fragrant. Add the browned beef back to the skillet and give it a quick stir.
- Add Gojuchang, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and low sodium soy sauce into the skillet. Continue cooking and stirring until you reach the desired consistency or crispiness. Season with salt and pepper if needed or adjust the spiciness by adding more Gojuchang sauce. Transfer the meat to a bowl, serve with rice and toppings of your choice.
